 12 Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial, which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you;

 13 But rejoice, since you are partakers of Christ's sufferings, so that when his glory is revealed, you may be glad with exceeding joy.4

 12 If we suffer, we will also reign with him; if we deny him, he will also deny us. [You must have fellowship with Christ in his sufferings; 1 Pet 4:12-13. Indeed, all who are determined to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. 2 Tim 3:12. For it is given to you on behalf of Christ, not only to believe in him, but also to suffer for his sake. Phil 1:29.]

 11 This is a faithful saying: If we have died with him, we will also live with him. [To have died with the Lord is to have had your sinful nature mortified and crucified on the inward cross of self-denial, and to have undergone the baptism of death: Therefore we were buried with him by baptism into death, Rom 6:4; and being buried with him in the true baptism, you also rise with him. Col 2:12. This is not to be presumed; it must be experienced.]

 1 Therefore, since Christ has suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves with the same mind because he who has suffered in the flesh is finished with sin, [From the Word of the Lord within: "Any of you whose sting to bear has been hard, use these facts: 1) all have suffered before you; 2) sin is excoriated; 3) God will remove the burden in time; and 4) the same is experienced by every cleanliness-desired heart in the nations."]

 2 So that you should not live the rest of your time in the flesh in the lusts of men, but [live] to the will of God.1

 6 In that greatly rejoice though it is necessary to suffer a few griefs now through various trials, [To receive salvation and the kingdom you first must suffer through tribulations and hardships. This has been mistranslated to be: you may have to suffer. Indeed, all who are determined to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. 2 Tim 3:12. The same sufferings are being experienced by all your brothers in the world. 1 Pet 5:9. Salvation comes after suffering. ]

 7 So that the trial of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tried with fire, might result in praise and honor and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ.

 21 For you were called to this, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, so that you should follow in his steps. [From the Word of the Lord within: "I would just as soon have avoided that horrible death. I did it to show you the extent of obedience required for your own salvation. You shall suffer persecution when you lead a godly life. Any of you whose sting to bear has been hard, use these facts: all have suffered before you; sin is excoriated; God will remove the burden in time; and the same is experienced by every cleanliness-desired heart in the nations." Paul said, "it is through many trials and tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God."]

 6 For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and scourges every son whom he accepts."4 [The pain of a wound cleanses away evil, so do stripes purge the inward parts [including the heart] of man, Pro 20:30; he who has suffered in the flesh has finished with sin. So that you should not live the rest of your time in the flesh in the lusts of men, but to the will of God. 1 Pet 4:1-2.]
