2 Corinthians 3:6

Display Chapter and Footnotes

 6 Who has made us able ministers of a new covenant; not of the letter [the Bible], but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.1 [The letter is the Bible and the law. Little by little each spoken word from His Spirit that you hear is engrafted into your heart and imparts the life of God to you making you a little more pure.]

Romans 2:28-29

Display Chapter and Footnotes

 28 For he is not a Jew, who is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh;

 29 But he is a Jew, who is one inwardly; and the circumcision is that of the heart, by the Spirit,5 and not by the letter; whose praise is not from men, but from God. [The Spirit circumcises your heart, cutting away the sins as you wait on God to receive his grace that both charges sin and then removes sin, purifying a peculiar people zealous for good works. Reading about sin in the Bible does not remove the desire for sin from your heart; only the Spirit does that.]
