|Hebrews 10:1-10 |
For the law was a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things; therefore by those sacrifices, continually offering year by year, it can never make the observers of it lastingly perfect.
If it were possible, would they not have stopped their offerings? Because if the worshippers were once made perfect, they would have had no more consciousness of sins.
But in those sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year.
For it is not possible for the blood of bulls and of goats to take away [from your heart] sins [and even the desire to sin].
Therefore when he [Christ] came into the world, he said, "Sacrifice and offering you did not desire," but a body have you prepared for me.
In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin you have had no pleasure.
In the previous sentences when he said, "Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin you have not desired, neither did you have pleasure in them;" all of which are offered by the law;
He then said, "Lo, I come to do your will, O God." Thus he takes away the first order, so that he may establish the second.
By that will, we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
