John 14

Previous Chapter | Next Chapter

1 [This Chapter (John 14) along with John 17 are two of the greatest chapters in the Bible to describe the true hope and true good news that Jesus came to preach.]

"Let not your heart be troubled; you trust in God, trust in me also.

2 In my Father's house are many mansions. If it were not so, I would have told you, for I go to prepare a place for you.

3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and take you to myself; so that where I am, there you may be also.1 [This applies to all his disciples, now and then; it refers to being translated into the Kingdom of Heaven, and to be raised with Christ to sit down in heavenly places in Christ while still alive on the earth. If any man wants to serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there my servant will also be. John 12:26. Your sight and consciousness are in heaven, but you are still on the earth serving the Lord. From the Word of the Lord within: "You can live in heaven and still walk the earth. I will come again to the elect; I will be a crown to lead and guide them." As George Fox ministered on the earth, he was translated to paradise; and then he lived in paradise.]

4 You know where I go, and you know the way."

5 But Thomas said to him, "Lord, we do not know where you are going; how can we know the way?"

6 Then Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man comes to the Father, but by me. [The only way to reconciliation with God is through obedience to the heart and soul purifying grace of Jesus. He reveals all truth, about yourself and the mysteries of God. He is the light of men and the life of God, to which you must be restored in the righteousness and holiness of God's image, Jesus Christ.]

7 If you had known me, you would have also known my Father. From this time forward you know him and have seen him."

8 Philip said to him, "Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied."

9 Then Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you such a long time, and you still have not known me, Philip? He who has seen me, has seen the Father; so how can you then say, 'Show us the Father?' [Jesus, the one Lord, is the visible representation, (image), of the invisible one God, the Father .]

10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? The words that I speak to you are not spoken from myself; but from the Father living in me, who does the miracles. [Jesus did not claim to be the Father. Jesus said that He, (the image of the invisible God), and the Father were one; and the Father spoke and acted through Him, (Jesus).]

11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father is in me, or else believe me because of the miracles themselves.

12 Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in me, he shall also do the works that I do; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go to my Father.

13 And whatever you shall ask in my name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

14 If you shall ask anything in my name, I will do it.

15 If you love me, you will obey my commands. [Obey the commands you hear Him speak to you from within your heart; the words He speaks to you from within you heart impart the life of God. John 6:63. To hear Him, you must wait, listen, and watch; then obey what He commands you to do — if you love Him.]

16 I will ask the Father, and he will give you another comforter [helper], so that he may remain with you forever2 — -

17 [Who is] the Spirit of truth, which the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him, nor knows him. But you know him because he dwells with you [now], and shall be in you [soon]. [Regarding, the Spirit of truth, which the world cannot receive: The light shines in the darkness; and the darkness did not comprehend it. John 1:5. For everyone who does evil deeds (sins) hates the light (so hates Christ, who is the light) and does not come to the light for fear his deeds will be exposed and reproved. John 3:20.]

18 I will not leave you comfortless like orphans; I will come to you.

19 Before long the world will no longer see me; but you will see me; and because I live, you will also live.

20 In that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.3

21 He who has my commands, and obeys them, it is he who loves me; and he who loves me shall be loved by my Father, and I will love him and will show myself to him."4 [Obey the commands you hear him speak to you from within your heart, and the words he speaks to you from within you heart impart the life of God, John 6:63; that life of God, Christ, grows within you, as his words are engrafted in your heart, until you become pure and see God in the face of Christ Jesus. Mat 5:8, 2 Cor 4:6.]

22 Then Judas, not Iscariot, said to him, "Lord, how is it that you will show yourself to us, and not to the world?" [This means that Jesus only appears for a second time to those disciples who have obeyed Him, to be purified, and who are waiting on His return in them. He appears in a man's heart; but he is hidden to the world. This applies to all true disciples, (2000 thousand years ago until now), who carry their inward cross of self-denial to crucify their lusts and affection.]

23 And Jesus answered and said to him, "If a man loves me, he will obey my spoken words; and my Father will love him, and we will come to him, and make our home with him5 [in his heart; and they live in a kingdom, into which you are translated. When you are translated into the kingdom, (while still alive on earth), you also see Him. Jesus appears in your heart. Jesus is revealed. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, "Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them, and be their God." Rev 21:3.]

24 He who doesn't love me, does not obey my spoken words; and the spoken words that you hear are not mine, but are the Father's who sent me.

25 I have spoken these things while still present with you.

26 But the Comforter, who is the Holy Spirit and whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things,6 and bring all things to your remembrance — whatever I have said to you.

27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you; not as the world gives, do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

28 You have heard how I said to you, 'I am going away, and will come again to you.' If you loved me, you would rejoice, because I said, 'I am going to the Father,' because my Father is greater than I.

29 And now I have told you before it has comes to pass, so that when it comes to pass, you might believe [even more].

30 From this point on I will not talk much with you, because the prince of this world comes, and there is nothing in me he owns.

31 But so that the world may know that I love the Father, I only do exactly as the Father has instructed me to do. Arise, let us go from here."

1 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and take you to myself;1 so that where I am, there you may be also. Jesus left the earth to not be seen again by the world, (19) but he said he would come back [in spirit] and take [in spiritual translation to the kingdom] his disciples to be with him [while still alive, but to remain resident on the earth] where he was going. (3) And this applied not only to his disciples but to those in the future who would believe from their word and teachings. If any man wants to serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there my servant will also be. John 12:26. This is being translated into the kingdom of Christ and being in union with Him. Your sight and consciousness are in heaven, but you are still on the earth serving the Lord; you are in the presence of God. Like Paul said: we are speaking in Christ before God, 2 Cor 2:17; I charge you before God and the Lord Jesus Christ and the elect angels, that you observe these things. 1 Tim 5:21. Seek the Lord and His strength; yearn for and seek His face, to be in His presence continually! 1 Chr 16:11. George Fox also spoke from the presence of God; read the many references Fox made to speaking the word of God in the presence of God. From the Word of the Lord within: "We stand in His presence. In the kingdom we stand before God and His holy angels. You can live in heaven and still walk the earth. I will come again to the elect; I will be a crown to lead and guide them."

In this verse Jesus says, "I will come again and take you to be with me." The word "again" in the Greek text of this verse is the word palin <3825>, which means a "renewal or repetition" as in an "oscillatory repetition." An oscillatory repetition is not a one time event; it is many events — as He comes again and again into each of His thousands and thousands of saints, raising each to sit down with Him in the heavens in the rest. Thus each man in his own order. 1 Cor 15:23

2 I will ask the Father, and he will give you another comforter [helper], so that he may remain with you forever. Jesus said he would send the Spirit of Truth to be in their hearts forever, (17) and be in them (17).

3 In that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. Jesus said that in that day, the person who loved and obeyed him would know that Jesus is in the Father, the person is in Jesus, and Jesus is in the person, (20), and is seen by that person, (21,19).

4 He who has my commands, and obeys them, it is he who loves me; and he who loves me shall be loved by my Father, and I will love him and will show myself to him. Jesus said that those who loved him, would obey and practice his teachings.(21) He said the world would no longer see him, but the disciples would see him (19); he would show himself to whoever loved and obeyed him — the obedient would see him. (21). Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. Mat 5:8, and When we see him, we will be like him. All those who have this hope, purify their hearts as he is pure. 1 John 3:2-3 and For God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, has shined in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. 2 Cor 4:6, 3:18

5 And Jesus answered and said to him, "If a man loves me, he will obey my spoken words; and my Father will love him, and we will come to him, and make our home with him." Jesus said the Father and himself would come and make their home [dwell and live] in those who loved and obeyed him. (23) I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 2 Cor 6:16.

And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, "Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them, and be their God. And God will wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain; for the former things have passed away." Rev 21:3-4

And I set my tabernacle in you; and my soul shall not abhor you.
And I will walk in you, and will be your God, and you shall be my people. Lev 26:11-12

My tabernacle shall also be with them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Eze 37:27

I will also give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit within you, and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh.
And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and you will keep my judgments, and do them. Eze 36:26-27

And they shall be my people, and I will be their God. Jer 32:38

That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith...that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Eph 3:17-19. Until we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. Eph 4:13.

All this occurs by your obedience to the spoken words you hear from Christ speaking as you persistently and patiently sit and listen in humble silence. Your obedience is perfected so that when Jesus and the Father come to make their home in your heart, (to dwell in you and walk in you), they come in sufficient measure to supply all your words to speak, command all your deeds, supply all your thoughts, and energize you to do the will of God perfectly.

This verse is typically translated as "If anyone loves me, he will keep my word," instead of "obey my spoken words;" but in the original Greek for the verse, (click to see), the Greek for word is logon <3056), which means: 1) of speech; 1a) a word, uttered by a living voice, embodies a conception or idea; 1b) what someone has said. The Greek for the word keep is thrhsei <5083>, which means: to attend to carefully, or to guard, or to observe.

6 But the Comforter, who is the Holy Spirit and whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things. Jesus said the Holy Spirit would teach them all things; (26) which is the only way we can learn. We must be quiet to listen to the Holy Spirit's teachings. And 1 John 2:20, "But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things; and 1 John 2:27, But the anointing that you have received from him abides in you, and you do not need any man to teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you all things and is truth, and is no lie; and even as it has taught you, abide in him. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth...and show you things to come. John 16:13

He also said his disciples would do greater things than he had done, (12), and on that day whatever they asked would be granted. (13).

Jesus has promised how his disciples, (and we who believe the promises), that they would become one with Jesus and one with God, (junior but up to God). Jesus has described being translated into the Kingdom of heaven within them and around them.

These promises are the true hope, of the true believers. With this true hope, their obedient faith can purify their hearts and souls, so they can be presented perfect as acceptable company for fellowship with the Father and Son. For without purity, fellowship is impossible: For what fellowship has righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion has light with darkness? 2 Cor 6:14

Notice, all these promises are predicated on obedience; obedience to the commands, the teachings, the words of Jesus. And to hear the commands, specifically tailored to your condition, you must come to him (wait in silence), listen for his words, hear his words, believe them to be from the Son of God, and then obey them as though your soul depends on obeying, which it does: You must listen, hear, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls, James 1:21; the words you hear the Lord speak to you, and which you obey, are grafted into your heart because the words he speaks to us are spirit and life-giving — the words retained impart and build the life of God in us. By this process God writes his law into our hearts: I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people, Jer 31:33; as he says if you listen to and obey my voice, I will be your God, and you shall be my people; and walk completely in the ways that I command you, so that it may be well with you. Jer 7:23

These promises are beyond anything man has ever imagined — to become one with God, (junior but up to God). Yet the promises have been discarded, lost, forgotten, ignored, even ridiculed as impossible — all by the beast with horns like a lamb, with many names — the false church, the church of Babylon. Babylon means confusion, and confusion has veiled the true hope and faith from being realized, substituting ritual and form of godliness without power, to supposedly justify continuing to live in sin, in enmity to God. Just like Eve was deceived, can't you hear the tempter whispering his lies to deceive you now: "has not Jesus guaranteed you a place in heaven, with grace paying for all your sins (past, present, and future) — so go ahead, keep on sinning; haven't you been told that Jesus will stand up for you and excuse you; besides that, doesn't everyone sin?"

But as Jesus said: Repent or perish. Sin no more. If your hand, foot, or eye causes you to sin, cut them off; for it is better to enter the kingdom without a body part, than to enter Hell with them. Depart from me you who work iniquity [sin, lawlessness, or wickedness], for I never knew you. As Paul said: You can be sure that no sexually immoral, or impure, or covetous person, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Let no one deceive you with vain words. For because of such things God's wrath comes on those who are disobedient. Eph 5:5-6

And because to be born again and be free from sin requires one to lose their selfish life on the inward cross of self-denial, people rush to believe the false teachers describing the broad, easy way, that seems right, but leads to destruction.

Once you grasp the true promises, the true hope, the true gospel — then all the scriptures will begin to make sense, without having to discard the exclusions, the requirements, and the qualifying conditions; including the requirements of cleansingpurityperfection and holiness.

we are saved by hope, Rom 8:24
. Salvation is not to be presumed, salvation is to be experienced and seen.
We are saved by heart-and-soul-purifying grace through our faith in God's promises, but we must have the hope of our securing them:

And how do we realize our hope? To sit at Jesus' feet and listen to his word is the one thing needed by any who wish to experience the promises of the Bible:

Now it came to pass as they went, that he entered into a certain village, and a woman named Martha received him into her house.
And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus' feet and heard his word.
Now Martha was distracted with much serving, and so came to him and said, "Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her that she should help me."
But Jesus answered and said to her, "Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things.
"There is only one thing needed, and Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her." Luke 10:38-42

Jesus was not reading scriptures to Mary, he was speaking to her; we must hear him speak to us too: for the words I speak to you are spirit and they are life-giving. John 6:63; his words spoken to us impart the life of God to us, if we hear and obey them. We must go to him. We must wait on himlisten silently, with the humility of a sinner in need of his changing power — grace. We must listen, hear, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. James 1:21. Daily we must wait, watch, listen, hear, obey... wait, watch, listen, hear, obey..... seek, listen, obey. We must endure to the end, when we see Christ bring our salvation.

To sit quietly, struggling with your mind to listen, is a cross to your will; to obey is a cross to your will — denying your will, and yielding to thy will be donethis is the inward cross of self-denial. Do this, and you are following Jesus.

Surely he loves the people; all your holy ones are in your power. And they sit at your feet, each receiving your words. Deu 33:3

From the Word of the Lord within: "Hope releases the power of God to change you. There is no hope for anyone outside the power of God." Without the power of God working in you, there is no victory, there is no overcoming. There are three sources to the power of God being released to purify you: 1) power in the true hope and gospel, 2) power in the inward cross of self denial, and 3) the power in the name of Jesus. This power of God works in us, and keeps us through faith to salvation, which is to be delivered from sin. Christendom today is without the cross and without the true hope; and so without the power of God, left only as a form (hollow shell) of the original Christianity, without the new life of the new creature, without holiness, wallowing in sin, boasting of their imperfection, perishing, whose end is destruction. For without the power of God released to change a man, his heart remains full of sin and unacceptable to God, whatever his lips may say in the form of worship. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; so that everyone may receive what is due him, according to what he has done in the body, whether it is good or bad. 2 Cor 5:10
