|John 6:63 |
63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life-giving.6 [Jesus is the bread of life: the life of God. From the Word of the Lord within: " The words I speak to you impart life; the Spirit gives life with every word heard." To acquire more of Jesus, (the life), you must get quiet, wait on Him, listen, hear His words that he speaks to you, and then obey what He commands. His words that he speaks to us impart the life of God to us and are engrafted into our hearts; and since Jesus is the life of God, His spoken words form Jesus within us, until finally He is resurrected in us to be our true Lord, ruling our thoughts, words, and deeds.]
6 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit and they are life-giving. His spoken words that you hear and keep, (practice, obey, hold true), are spirit and impart the life of God to you. Works of the flesh profit nothing; reading the Bible is a work of the flesh. Only words heard, as spoken by the Spirit, will give life. You can hear and grow spiritually by hearing the Word of Life spoken by the Holy Spirit in your heart if you wait in humble silence, as you listen, watch, hear, believe it to be true, and then obey what you are told to do. It is the words you hear from God and obey that actually create the new spiritual life within you, which life is Christ, the life. Those words heard are engrafted to take root in your heart to change you to become more like him, forming Christ within you; until Christ is fully formed and resurrected in you to be your true Lord, ruling your thoughts, your words, and your deeds.
Jesus told the Apostles they were cleansed by the words that he had spoken to them. John 15:3. And Paul tells us the church of believers is sanctified and cleansed with the washing of the water of the word to become glorious, without spot or wrinkle, Eph 5:25-27; and both He who sanctifies and those who are sanctified are all of one, Heb 2:11; and those who are sanctified are forever cleansed and perfected. Heb 10:14. So the words we persistently hear Him speak to us result in being cleansed, sanctified, in union, and perfected forever.
But you must hear him, not read about him; not listen to someone else read about him. You must hear him and obey him for any spiritual progress to be made. The letter kills, but the Spirit gives life. You can read the whole Bible; you can memorize the whole Bible, and it will not yield life or spiritual growth. The letter or law condemns, motivating you to change, motivating you to seek his help to be different. But the Bible cannot impart life, which the spirit does. The Bible is good for understanding what is sin, and good for maintaining hope; but it is no substitute for coming to him to be taught and changed. You search the scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are those that testify of me. But you will not come to me, so that you may have life. John 5:38-40.
From the Word of the Lord within:
Ten words from Him are better that reading ten of the New Testament letters because His words that you hear Him speak to you impart the life of God to your heart, John 6:63; but reading ten letters is just a work of the flesh, which profits nothing; in fact most people read the letters of the New Testament and think they are addressed to them, when in fact most were addressed to very advanced believers who had attained the first stage of perfection. Reading the Bible is valuable for understanding what is sin and for maintaining your hope in the true gospel; however, to be of value, your hope must be in the true gospel and the benefit of bearing the cross to realize those promises.
