 But now he [Christ] has obtained a more excellent ministry, since he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.

 For if that first covenant had been faultless, then there would have been no replacement sought for a second [covenant].

 For finding fault with them, He said, "Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah;

 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they did not continue in my covenant, and I disregarded them, says the Lord.1

 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts;2 and I will be to them a God, and they will be to me a people. [Christ, the light given to every man to believe what he shows them and commands them, is the new covenant of God. He is the truth; he is the grace; he is the grace and truth who comes, having tasted death for every man, to allow every man who believes in the light to become a child of the light, a son of God who is light.]

 And they will not teach every man his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, 'Know the Lord,' for all will know me, from the least to the greatest.
