13 For if you live according to the flesh [the sinful nature], you will die; but if through the Spirit you mortify [put to death] the deeds of the body, you will live.4 [Therefore mortify [put to death] the deeds of the body which are of the earthly life; fornication, impurity, inordinate affections, evil lusts of the flesh, and covetousness, which is idolatry. Col 3:5. Strip yourselves of your former nature that controlled your conduct, which corrupts itself through lusts and desires that spring from delusion. Eph 4:22]
5 Therefore mortify [put to death] the deeds of the body that are of the earthly life: fornication, impurity, inordinate affections, evil lusts of the flesh, and covetousness, which is idolatry.4
4 Circumcise yourselves to the LORD, and take away the foreskins of your heart1 you men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem, lest my fury come forth like fire and burn so that none can quench it because of the evil of your doings.
29 But he is a Jew, who is one inwardly; and the circumcision is that of the heart, by the Spirit,5 and not by the letter; whose praise is not from men, but from God. [The Spirit circumcises your heart, cutting away the sins as you wait on God to receive his grace that both charges sin and then removes sin, purifying a peculiar people zealous for good works. Reading about sin in the Bible does not remove the desire for sin from your heart; only the Spirit does that.]
11 In whom you also will be circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision performed by Christ,2 [Christ is the anointing, which teaches you all things and which circumcises your heart, cutting off the foreskin of sin and selfishness to become an inward Jew, inwardly circumcised.]
22 Strip yourselves of your former nature that controlled your conduct, which corrupts itself through lusts and desires that spring from delusion;
16 Therefore circumcise the foreskin of your heart,2 and do not be stiff necked [stubbornly self-willed] any longer.
6 And the LORD your God will circumcise your heart, and the heart of your seed, to love the LORD your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, that you may live.1
|1 John 3:8 |
8 He who commits sin is of the devil, for the devil sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God is revealed [in us], that he might destroy [in us] the works [sin] of the devil.4 [Let no man deceive you, saying that you can still be sinning and belong to God; those still sinning serve the devil. Christ is revealed in our flesh to destroy the works of the devil, by condemning the secret sins in our heart, and then destroying even our desire to sin. Paul confirms Jesus destroying the works of the devil in each purified believer: "the God of peace shall crush Satan under your feet shortly." Rom 16:20.]
