|2 Corinthians 2:17 |
17 For we are not like so many, who peddle the word of God for profit; but we are speaking in Christ in the presence of God as persons of sincerity, as persons sent from God.2 [From the Word of the Lord within: "The gregarious make a living teaching the scriptures. We stand in the presence of God speaking forth His words as commanded." Unless you are sent to specific person(s), and unless you then only speak words as commanded, you are seeking your own glory: He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory; but he who seeks the glory of the One who sent him, that man is true, and there is no unrighteousness in him. John 7:18 ]
2 For we are not like so many, who peddle the word of God for profit; but we are speaking in Christ before God as persons of sincerity, as persons sent from God. Paul is speaking about preachers who ask for money, which makes them covetous, following the way of Balaam; blackest darkness is reserved for such people forever. Regarding those preachers who take a salary or ask for contributions of money, Jesus said: he is a hired hand [working for pay], and does not love the sheep. John 10:11-13. Jesus also commanded his disciples: freely you have received, freely give. Matt 10:8. The preachers today don't speak from the Spirit's promptings, they speak by quoting scriptures; therefore they speak from the nature of death, their carnal mind. But Paul said: we speak, not in the words, which man's wisdom teaches, but which the Holy Spirit instructs; explaining spiritual truths with spiritual words. 1 Cor 2:13. Peter commanded preachers not to preach for money and not to Lord it over their followers. 1 Pet 5:2-3.
Paul said that he was speaking in Christ before God as persons sent from God. He speaks words from God, while in Christ, in the sight of God. Paul was speaking words prompted by God; Paul was speaking words heard from God; Paul was speaking the word of God. Paul was sent from God to speak to specific person(s). Paul was not speaking from himself, he was speaking from what he heard God tell him to speak. Jesus also said he only spoke what the Father told him to speak; and that He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory; but he who seeks the glory of the One who sent him, that man is true, and there is no unrighteousness in him. John 7:18.
Paul testifies as to living in the Kingdom of Heaven: the Father will make you fit to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light. Who has delivered us from the power of darkness, and has translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son. Col 1:12-13. The Kingdom is a parallel dimension, but higher than we can see until we are in the light, having become children of the light: While you have light, believe in the light, that you may be the children of light. John 12:36.
Not only do the true preachers like Paul speak words from God in the sight of God, but as Paul also said: we speak, not in the words, which man's wisdom teaches, but which the Holy Spirit instructs; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. 1 Cor 2:13.
But the preachers today don't speak in the presence of God from the Spirit's promptings, they speak from their evil imaginations and by quoting scriptures as ministers of the letter, not the Spirit; therefore they speak from the nature of death, their carnal mind, Rom 8:6-7. They seek their own glory. They seek your money. They preach words for monetary profit, which do not impart life; for only words spoken from the Spirit impart life: It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life-giving. John 6:63. George Fox also spoke from the presence of God; read the many references Fox made to speaking the word of God in the presence of God.
