|Esther 5:9-14 |
Then Haman went away that day joyful and with a glad heart. But when he saw Mordecai at the king's gate refusing to stand up or tremble before him, he was filled with rage against Mordecai.
Nevertheless Haman restrained himself and went home, and he sent for his friends and his wife Zeresh.
Then Haman recounted to them the glory of his riches, the multitude of his sons, all the ways the king had honored him, and how he had advanced him above the other princes and servants of the king.
Moreover Haman said, "Yes, even Queen Esther did not let anyone but me come in with the king to the banquet that she had prepared; and tomorrow I am again invited by her with the king.
Yet all this avails me nothing as long as I see Mordecai the Jew sitting at the king's gate."
Then Zeresh his wife and all his friends said to him, "Have a gallows seventy five feet high made, and tomorrow ask the king to have Mordecai hanged on it; then go in merrily with the king to the banquet." And the advice pleased Haman, and he had the gallows made.
