Hosea 9

Previous Chapter | Next Chapter

Do not rejoice, O Israel, with joy like other nations, for you have played the harlot from your God, you have loved the wages of a harlot on every threshing floor.

The threshing floor and the winepress shall not feed them, and the new wine shall fail them.

They shall not dwell in the LORD's land, but Ephraim shall return to Egypt and they shall eat unclean things in Assyria.

They shall not offer wine offerings to the LORD, neither shall they be pleasing to him. Their sacrifices shall be to them like the bread of mourners; all who eat them shall be defiled, for their bread shall not come into the house of the LORD, but will only be for themselves.

What will you do in the solemn day, and in the day of the feast of the LORD?

For they have gone because of destruction; Egypt shall gather them up, Memphis shall bury them. Nettles shall possess their precious things of silver; thorns shall be in their tents.

The days of visitation have come; the days of recompense have come; Israel shall know it. The prophet is considered a fool, the spiritual man as mad, because of the multitude of your iniquity and because the hatred is great.

The watchman of Ephraim was with my God; but the prophet has become like the snare of a fowler in all his ways. And there is hostility in the house of his God.

They have deeply corrupted themselves as in the days of Gibeah. Therefore he will remember their iniquity; he will punish their sins.

"I found Israel like grapes in the wilderness; I saw your fathers like the first ripe fruit on the fig tree at her first season, but they went to Baalpeor and consecrated themselves to that shameful idol; and they became an abomination like that which they loved.

As for Ephraim, their glory shall fly away like a bird; no birth, no pregnancy, and no conception.

Even though they bring up children, yet I will bereave them so that there shall not be a man left; yes, woe to them when I depart from them!

Ephraim, as I saw with Tyre, is planted in a pleasant place, but Ephraim will bring out his children to the slayer."

Give them, O LORD! What will you give them? Give them a miscarrying womb and dry breasts.

"All their wickedness is in Gilgal, for I hated them there; for the wickedness of their deeds I will drive them out of my house; I will no longer love them; all their princes are rebellious.

Ephraim is stricken, their root is dried up, they shall bear no fruit. Yes, though they bring forth, yet I will slay even their beloved offspring."

My God will cast them away because they did not listen to and obey him, and they shall be wanderers among the nations.
